From end of February 'Noorderlicht' is frozen in the fjordice of Tempelfjorden, Spitsbergen. This fjord is one of the eastern most fjords inside Isfjorden and is surrounded by templeshaped mountains.
From the ship there is a magnificent view of the 'Von Post' Glacier. Starting from Longyearbyen the frozen-in ship is to be visited by dogsledge or snowscooter. On this 60 K journey between white valleys and snowcovered mountains you are accompanied by an experienced guide. Temperatures are between -10 and -30 degrees Celsius. To dress warm is absolutly necessary, always
be aware of the windchill factor! Included is the use of arctic clothing (see travelinfo) Within a period fo 6 weeks total darkness turns into 24 hours of broad daylight.
Beautiful pink and orange skies accompany the rising sun after the dark period. As long as there is some darkness the aurora borealis or Northern lights can be spotted
